SUBCODE "E" (THE PHILADELPHIA ELECTRICAL CODE)
SECTION E-2707.0 ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS
E-2707.1 License required: No person shall engage in the
business of installing electrical or data systems, parts of systems or equipment
pertaining to the transmission, generation or distribution of electricity and/or
intelligence, systems, parts of systems or electrical equipment, nor engage in
the business of electrical contracting unless that person has obtained a license
from the department.
E-2707.2 Application for license: No license shall
be issued by the department unless the applicant files an application on forms
supplied by the department setting forth such information as required by the
department.
E-2707.3 Requirements for license: No Electrical
Contractor's License shall be issued unless the provisions of Sections
E-2707.3.1 through E-2707.3.3 have been satisfied.

Experience: The applicant shall have a minimum of four years of practical
experience gained while employed in electrical work. Satisfactory completion of
two years of education in the electrical field shall be equivalent to one year
of practical experience, but not more than four years educational credits shall
be given towards the required four years practical
experience.
E-2707.3.2 Examination: The applicant shall have passed a
written examination on the theory and practice of electricity to test knowledge
of NFPA 70 as herein adopted, which shall be developed, regulated and or
approved by the Electrical Advisory Board and the Department. The test shall be
administered by an agency under contract by the department or city that is in
possession of a business privilege license issued by the City of
Philadelphia.
E-2707.3.3 Continuing education: Before any Electrical
Contractor's License is issued or renewed, the applicant or licensee shall
have completed at least 8 hours per year in course work or seminars on the
then-current edition of NFPA 70 at an approved or accredited school or
organization approval by the department. The applicant or licensee shall furnish
the department with a completion certificate indicating the course(s) activity
and the length in hours of each course.
