CHAPTER 1 (Amended)

F-101.1 Title: These [regulations] provisions shall be
known as the Fire Prevention Code of the City of Philadelphia hereinafter
referred to as "this code."
F-101.2 Scope: [These regulations] This code
prescribes the minimum requirements and controls to safeguard life, property or
public welfare from the hazards of fire and explosion arising from the storage,
handling or use of substances, materials or devices and from conditions
hazardous to life, property or public welfare in the occupancy of structures or
premises.

F-101.4 Application of references -

F-101.[5] 3 Intent: This code shall be construed to secure its
expressed intent, which is to ensure public safety, health and welfare insofar
as they are affected by conditions which cause fire or explosion and panic
resulting therefrom; and, in general, to secure safety to life and property from
fire hazards incident to the occupancy and maintenance of structures or
premises.
F-101.4 Administrative provisions: This chapter contains those
provisions which are unique to the administration of this code. All other
administrative provisions applicable to this code are as set forth in the
administrative code.

[F-101.3 Compliance] F-102.2 Existing structures: Existing
structures and premises that do not comply with [these provisions] this code
shall be altered or repaired to provide a minimum level of safety as herein
required.

F-102.4 Referenced codes: Where this code references the
administrative, building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, property maintenance
or zoning codes, it shall mean the City of Philadelphia Code of such title
listed in Chapter 44 and currently in effect unless specifically stated
otherwise.
F-102.[2] 5 Referenced standards: The standards referenced in
this code [and] shall be those that are listed in Chapter 44 and shall be
considered part of the requirements of this code to the prescribed extent of
each such reference. Where differences occur between the provisions of this code
and referenced standards, the provisions of this code shall apply.
